Scholarship Recipient – Janel K.

Janel was an exceptional student at MST Junior School who loved school and learning more than anything.  She was born healthy, growing progressively, and developing physically, as expected. At the age of 9 months, she was injured in an accident.  She sustained severe burn injuries and endured several months in hospital.  She began to walk at age one, however, it soon became apparent she was being overtaken by a weakness, and as this affliction progressed, this young student began to lose the ability to bear weight or walk on her own.

As a result of her diminishing physical capabilities and increasing needs, her parents have suffered financial distress in the course of caring for Janel.  The family suffered loss of income, and endured the increased expense of necessary medical equipment to mobilize and care for her.  They have not been able to afford the tuition at MST Junior School, Janel’s most loved and treasured place of learning.

MST Junior School itself has been increasingly challenged in meeting this little one’s special needs.   The other students at MST have taken to carrying her, and her wheelchair up and down the school stairs to ensure she makes all classes on time.  Both her parents and administrators have struggled to support her special needs.

We, at STEM is for Everyone believe this child has great purpose, and we are honored and privileged to support Janel on her on her journey.
